New Sculpture for Northwick Manor Primary School

Deborah and Wren install the centrepiece of the Northwick Manor Brick SculptureAs part of the project, pupils at Northwick Manor Primary School have been working with their own artist-in-residence to learn about the brick-making process, inspired by an industry that operated on the banks of the Severn at Northwick for many centuries. Environmental artist Wren Miller, has been working with the children to produce their own mini bricks, sculpting them with their own designs and learning all about the brick making process. Clay was donated by Wienerberger Ltd., a brick producing company based in Aldridge, Walsall.

Wren has now completed a permanent brick sculpture in the form of a river of words all associated with the local brick making industry. Mini Bricks were imprinted with letters that made words such as Grog, Crinkle-Crankle and Bond, and footprints were taken from lots of the people who made it, from the kids, the teachers and staff at the brick factory (who also very kindly fired the bricks) and from Wren herself. The sculpture is a river like path for the kids to enjoy, set into the ground. For more pictures see the Northwick Manor - Art page
