What is the Northwick Manor Community Heritage Project?
A Heritage Lottery Funded initiative designed to engage and inspire local people of all ages, through the historic landscape, archaeology and natural environment of Northwick and Bevere.
Heritage Trail
A circular walk through Northwick and Bevere, along existing rights of way, will be way marked and illustrated with interpretation panels and reconstruction drawings, bringing the fascinating story of this historic landscape to life.

Conservation
The beautiful 18th Century Map of the Manor of Claines by John Doharty Junior (which includes Northwick), held by Worcestershire Record Office, will be conserved and digitised to provide and irreplaceable resource for research and education.
Events
A number of lively public events will be taking place throughout the two years of the project, giving people the opportunity to have a go at or experience a range of activities including:
Memory Sharing
– the project will see young people from the local school and youth groups talking to older residents who have memories of the area from years ago.
Talks
– There will be a programme of talks on various aspects of the project, from wildlife to industrial archaeology. See the Northwick Events page for forthwcoming talks and workshops.
Art Projects and exhibitions
– there will be ongoing art projects, photography and various other activities. An artist in residence based at Northwick Manor School will explore the local historic environment as inspiration for a number of children’s art workshops.
Workshops
– The opportunity to have a go at archaeological fieldwork techniques, watch a geophysical survey and take part in building recording surveys. Learn how to research the history of your house or street, or the people that lived there long ago. Local schools will benefit from workshops on the history of the area and artefact handling sessions. Residents will be invited to have finds from their gardens identified.
Publication
- In conclusion of the project, this website will be developed further and a trail leaflet is being produced, and local people will have the opportunity to contribute to a booklet on the history of the area, drawing on their own research and experiences of the previous two years’ activities.
How can I get involved?
We are eager for anyone who is interested to let us know and to join in with the wide range of activities that will be taking place over the next two years. We want local people to undertake research and have their say about the trail content and design, to take photographs, to share memories and to show off their finds!
